BANNING

Mrs. Alva (Lena M.) Banning, 64, of Route 1, Pierceton, died today at 12:01 a.m. in the Whitley County hospital in Columbia City. Mrs. Banning, a lifetime resident of the Pierceton community, was born in Kosciusko county on Sept. 15, 1897, the daughter of John and Hanna (sic) (Elder) Shear. She married Alva E. Banning on June 21, 1917 in New Paris. Mrs. Banning was a member of the St. Francis Catholic Church in Pierceton. Surviving are her husband; one son, Carl, of Pierceton; four daughters, Mrs. Alberta Blanchard, of Mishawaka, Mrs. Scott Kemphues (sic) of Fort Wayne, Sister M. Giavanni OSF, of St. Louis, Mo., and Mrs. Joseph Smith, of Idaho Falls, Ida., nine grandchildren and one great-grandchildren. One daughter preceded her in death. Last rites will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in the St. Francis Catholic Church with Father Eugene Zimmerman officiating. Burial will be in the Washington Union cemetery. Friends may call at the Harris-Troxel funeral home in North Webster after noon Friday.
