ALVA E. BANNING
North Webster - Alva E. Banning, 81, a retired farmer of Rt. 1, Pierceton, was found dead of an apparent heart attack on Saturday at his home. Born near North Webster, he was born Nov. 18, 1894 to Lester and Savilla (Thomas) Banning and had resided in the area his entire life. On June 21, 1917 he was united in marriage to the former Lena Shear. She preceded him in death in 1962.
The deceased was a veteran of World War I and a member of the Calvary Baptist Church at Oswego. Survivors include one son, Carl Banning, Columbia City; four daughters, Mrs. Alberta Blanchard, South Bend; Mrs. Opal Kamphues, Fort Wayne, Miss Flossie Banning, Fort Wayne, and Mrs. Marjorie Smith, Ledyard, Conn.; 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Mary Fidler, North Webster. Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Calvary Baptist Church, Oswego, with Rev. Gary Meadors officiating. Interment will be in Washington Union cemetery.
Friends will be received at Harris-Troxel Funeral Home, North Webster, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today and Tuesday.
