Chester John Chapla, 84, of South Bend, passed away unexpectedly in his home on Monday, March 19. Chester was born on July 1, 1922 in South Bend as the son of Aloisius J. Czapla and Antonina Lenard. He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings. In June 1971 in South Bend he married the former Dorothy H. Hagdorn who passed away on January 30, 1999. Surviving Chester are two daughters, Darlene "Penny" Ross of Gallenton, TN and Debra "Patty" Seals of South Bend; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Chester was a Veteran of the United States Army where he was a Sergeant during WW II. He was Head of Maintenance for the Osteopathic Hospital in South Bend. He retired in 2002. Chester was a loving caring father and grandfather. He enjoyed being with people and especially being with his grandchildren. Family and friends may visit on Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka where funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Private family burial will take place.
