Charles “Chuck” E. Chmielewski, 79, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, February 5, 2023 at Heritage Point in Mishawaka, IN. Chuck was born on July 7, 1943 to the late Leonard and Mary (Raszipovits) Chmielewski in South Bend, IN, and was a lifelong area resident. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Marsha S. Chmielewski. Chuck graduated in 1961 from Washington High School in South Bend. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Vietnam War, serving his country from May 1965 - April 1967. He retired in April 2007 from A&W Masonry Builders, Inc. in South Bend, IN, where he was employed from 1983 - 2007. On October 10, 1970, he married Marsha S. Lewandowski at St. Adalbert Catholic Church in South Bend, IN. Marsha passed away on November 25, 1999. Chuck is survived by his two daughters, Tammy (Jeff) Kalicki of Walkerton, IN; Robyn (Mike) Albert of South Bend, IN; four grandchildren, Olivia and Katelyn Kalicki; Mallory and Reid Albert; and two brothers, Fred W. Chmielewski of South Bend, IN; David A. (Sharon) Chmielewski of Land O’ Lakes, FL; and by several nieces and nephews. Chuck enjoyed traveling with his family and was always taking pictures for memories. He was a kind and gentle man who always put the needs of others first. Chuck will be dearly missed. Visitation will be held from 2-8 p.m. Monday, February 13, 2023 at Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 14, 2023 at Kaniewski Funeral Home with Rev. Michael Vellner officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend, IN, where Military Honors will be performed. Chuck’s family would like to thank all the staff at Heritage Point as well as Center for Hospice for the excellent care they provided for him.
