SOUTH BEND - Mary R. Chmielewski, 93, passed away at 7:15 p.m. Sunday, April 26, 2009, in her sons' residence. Mary was born on April 26, 1916, in South Bend, to Vendel and Marya (Sari) Raszipovits. On October 18, 1941, in South Bend, she married Leonard J. Chmielewski. He died on June 1, 1979. Mary was also preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Kane and Margaret Elsie Horvath. Mrs. Chmielewski was a member of St. Adalbert's Catholic Church and the St. Stanislaus Harvest House. Surviving are three sons, Charles (Charlene) Chmielewski of Lakeville, Fredrick Chmielewski of South Bend and David (Sharon) Chmielewski; 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 30th, in St. Adalbert Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 S. Kemble Avenue, where a Rosary will be recited at 5 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637.
