South Bend Tribune 12/20/1996 ... Frank Portolese, 97, of East Lawrence St. Mishawaka, IN., died at 2a.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, in the St. Joseph Community Hospital, Mishawaka, after a brief illness. Frank was born Aug. 2, 1899, in Plati, Italy, coming to the United States from Italy in 1922. On Jan. 16, 1920, in Plati, he married the former Dominica Trimboli, who preceded him in death on April 18, 1971. Frank is survived by a daughter, Mary Schimizzi of Osceola, IN., six sons, Ross A., Michael, Anthony, Pasquale, Umberto and Joseph Portolese, all of Mishawaka; 17 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Mr. Portolese was a member of St. Monica's Catholic Church, Mishawaka, the DiLoreto Club (of which he was one of the founders, and an employee for 22 years), a retiree of Uniroyal after 24 years, retiring in 1946, and a veteran of the Italian military in 1916. Funeral services will be at 11a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 21, in St. Monica's Church. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka. Visitation will be from 1 to 8p.m. today in the Thallemer-Goethals Funeral Home, Mishawaka, where a wake service will be held at 2:30p.m.
