Pat was born on February 27th, 1926, in Mishawaka, Indiana, to the late Francesco and Dominica Portolese. He married the love of his life, Dorothy (Overpeck), on January 11, 1947. Pat and Dorothy were blessed with 4 children, Vickie Woodward, Thomas (Ellen), Jayne (John) Kimmel, Patrick (Doris) Portolese. His pride and joy of his life were his grandchildren, Jennifer (Jim) Woodward-Nielander, Bryon (Donna) Woodward, Jacqueline (Matt) Denman, T.J. Portolese, Dustin (Rachel) Kimmel; and his 7 great-grandchildren, Derek, Bryan, Britton, Caysie, Jaxon, Zoe and Maxwell. Pat is also survived by his sister, Mary Schimizzi; brothers, Ross (Mary) Portolese, Tony Portolese and Joe (Beth) Portolese; sisters-in-law, Rosalie and Mary Portolese; and his in-laws, Pete and Patsy Mammolenti, and Marge Overpeck. He had many nieces and nephews who he loved and enjoyed teasing. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Mike and Bert Portolese; and brothers-in-law, Don Schimizzi and Robert Overpeck. In 1947 he joined the Mishawaka Police Department and worked up the ranks until he was named Chief of Police in 1964. He served as Chief until 1973 at which time he retired to take the position of Controller for the City of Mishawaka. He was a member of the Maria SS DiLoreto Club, Mishawaka FOP and St. Bavo's Catholic Church. He will be forever remembered for his smiling face and his "way with words." His favorite pastime was going to the Blue Chip Casino and winning a buck.
