Albert R. "Bill" DeMeyer, 87, of South Bend, passed away in Memorial Hospital on Monday, December 12, 2005. Albert was born on June 22, 1918, in South Bend, to Octave and Helen (Accoe) DeMeyer. His parents, brothers, Raymond and Charles, and a sister, Marie Amberg, have all preceded him in death. On August 10, 1940, Albert married Helen (Mezosi) in South Bend. She survives along with a daughter, Sandra (Larry) Gildner of South Bend; son, Albert J. (Kris) DeMeyer of South Bend; foster daughter, Vickie Hillstrom of Sturgeon Bay, WI; grandchildren, Gary (Gail) Landuyt, Dennis (Stacey) Landuyt, Adam (Kandace) DeMeyer, Erik DeMeyer, Mark (Julie) Gildner and Suzanne (Stan) Balcom; 13 great-grandchildren; and a brother, George (Elenore) DeMeyer of LaPorte. Albert was a bus driver for the South Bend Community School Corporation for 19 years and was an agent for Marathon Oil Company for 25 years. He was a parishioner at Holy Family Catholic Church where he was a member of the Ushers Club. He also belonged to the American Legion Post 284. He was a member of William Penn. He was past governor of the Moose Lodge 58. He was a former member of the Warren Township Fire Department. He enjoyed traveling and was a wonderful ballroom dancer. He served in World War II while in the U.S. Navy. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was always working outdoors.
