GRANGER - Ernest A. Horvath, 88, residing in Granger, IN, passed away at 3:10 a.m. Friday, April 5, 2013 at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka, IN. He was born in South Bend on January 3, 1925, a son of Alex & Teresa (Gerenscer) Horvath, and has remained a lifelong resident of this community. On May 20, 1950 in South Bend, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth A. Nemeth. They have enjoyed nearly 63 years of marriage. He is survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth; two daughters, Nancy (Gary) Gaskill of Niles, MI & Kathleen Rose Gamble of Birmingham, AL; and a son, Ernest (Brenda) Horvath, Jr. of Wachahachie, TX. Also surviving are 5 grandchildren, Joshua, Joseph & Jonathan Horvath, Andrea and Andrew Gamble; and one great-granddaughter, Ashdyn Gamble. Mr. Horvath was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Alex Horvath, half-brother, Joseph Nyerges, and two half-sisters, Irene & Ann. Mr. Horvath worked as a mechanic in the oil industry. He retired from Standard Oil Company. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 8, 2013 at the Palmer Funeral Home-Hickey Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend. Gary Gaskill will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
