SOUTH BEND - Ervin Henry Wesolowski, 93, passed away Tuesday, October 4, 2016. A lifelong resident of South Bend, Erv was born December 2, 1922 to Joseph F. and Martha (Nowakowski) Wesolowski, the sixth of nine children. His youngest sister, Joan Acker, survives. On August 20, 1941 Ervin married Violet M. Albert, who preceded him in death on June 24, 1998, after 57 years of marriage. Erv was a United States Navy Veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific and he earned several medals and ribbons for his service. On October 1, 2014, he was excited to travel to Washington, D.C., courtesy of the Veteran's Honor Flight to visit the war memorials dedicated to the service of our veterans. After returning home from the war Erv was employed with Studebaker. In the mid-1950s he and Violet started their own business and they owned Erv's Garden & Floral Center for nearly 45 years. Erv also drove school bus #89 for the South Bend Community School Corporation for many years. Erv had a knack for counting cards in euchre games, loved playing horseshoes and was a patron of the Polish National Alliance. Erv was preceded in death by his only and beloved daughter, Donna J. Darbe on July 27, 2015. He is also survived by his son, Bill (Deb) Wesolowski, son-in-law, Alan Darbe; grandson and caregiver, Jeff Jozwiak; granddaughters, Pam and Sue Wesolowski, Kim (Jim) Gradeless, Dena Darbe; great-grandchildren, Luke (Nicole), Reed, Cole, and Tessa Gradeless, and Alexa Darbe; two great-great-grandsons, Tyler and Jake Gradeless. Visitation for Erv will be held from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm Tuesday, October 11, 2016 in St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S. Mayflower Rd with a Funeral Service to be held at 1:00 pm. Burial with Military Honors will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
