Fredrick (Fred) Dale Lehman
July 18, 1929 - September 8, 2021
Fred Lehman peacefully entered into the Gates of Heaven, with all of his family by his side, on September 8, 2021 at the age of 92. Fred was born July 18, 1929 in Nappanee, Indiana to the late Homer Lehman and Grace (Fredricks) Lehman. He was preceded in death by his two older brothers (Warren and Russell), his sisters Marian Ringle and Rosemary (Lolly) Kline, and a great-grandson Theodore “Teddy” Lehman. He is survived by his wife Betty (Manges) Lehman with whom he recently celebrated 72 years of marriage on September 4, 2021. He is also survived by his three children: Charles (Susan) Lehman (of Mishawaka), Philip (Sheila) Lehman (of Nappanee), and Julie (Dennis) Heil (of Longmont, CO). Along with eight grandchildren: Carrie Lehman, Alysen (Ryan) Sobecki, Bryant (Emily) Lehman; Christin (Jeremy) Pinckert, Katelyn (Andy) Sheets, Kyle (Amy) Lehman; Jacob (Morgan) Heil, and Christie (Nate) Ward and eleven great-grandchildren. Fred grew up and lived in Madison Township all of his life. He loved farming and enjoyed the work and the accomplishments that it produced over the many decades. His son, Phil, and grandson, Kyle, continue the farming operations allowing the family farm to continue into four generations. Fred graduated from Madison Twp. High School class of 1947 where he played on the basketball team. He married his high school sweetheart, Betty Manges, on September 4, 1949. He loved family gatherings and campouts. The grandkids continue to share stories of the annual gatherings with Grandpa and Grandma, usually involving Grandpa’s intense camp fires, wild games and sometimes crazy fireworks. While he had many accomplishments, he would tell you his greatest joy was his family. If you had the pleasure of knowing him, you undoubtedly were on the receiving end of his love and generosity. Fred left his mark on many and the world is a better place because of him. Fred is a member of Bremen (formerly Salem) United Methodist Church, Bremen, IN where he and Betty were married. The family would like to thank the staff of both Heritage House (Nappanee), and more recently the staff of Elera Hospice Care, for their support and compassion. A visitation will be held from 2-4pm and 6-8pm, Friday, September 10, 2021, at Thompson Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, 501 North Elkhart St., Wakarusa, IN. Funeral services will be held at Bremen United Methodist Church, Saturday, September 11, at 10:30am with a one hour visitation prior to service. Burial will follow at Bremen Cemetery.
