[N32877] Betty Manges Lehman
June 24, 1930 - July 30, 2022

Betty Lehman peacefully entered the Gates of Heaven, with her family by her side, on Saturday, July 30, 2022, at the age of 92. Betty was born June 24, 1930, in Bremen, Indiana to the late Garrie Manges and Amelia (Berger) Manges. She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Fred Lehman, less than a year ago on September 8, 2021. They celebrated 72 years of marriage on September 4, 2021. Betty was preceded in death by 2 older brothers, Eldon Manges and Earl Manges, and a great-grandson, Theodore "Teddy" Lehman. Betty is survived by her three children: Charles (Susan) Lehman (Mishawaka), Philip (Sheila) Lehman (Nappanee), and Julie (Dennis) Heil (Longmont, CO); eight grandchildren: Carrie Lehman, Alysen (Ryan) Sobecki, Bryant (Emily) Lehman, Christin (Jeremy) Pinckert, Katelyn (Andy) Sheets, Kyle (Amy) Lehman, Jacob (Morgan) Heil, and Christie (Nate) Ward and fourteen great-grandchildren (the latest being born on July 29, 2022). Betty lived in Madison Township all her life. She loved the farm life, raising a family and assisting with the day-to-day activities. She was a great cook and loved gardening and sewing. She was active in her church and loved the "Win-a-Couple" Sunday School class. Her son, Phil and grandson, Kyle, continue the farming operations allowing the family farm to continue into four generations. Betty graduated from Madison Twp. High School class of 1948 where she was a cheerleader. She married her high school sweetheart, Fred Lehman, on September 4, 1949, at Bremen (formerly Salem) United Methodist Church, Bremen, IN where she was a member. She loved family gatherings and campouts. The grandkids continue to share stories of the annual gatherings with Grandpa and Grandma, usually involving Grandma's cinnamon rolls, playing card games together and controlling Grandpa's intense campfires, wild games, and sometimes crazy fireworks. While she had many accomplishments, she would tell you her greatest joy was her family. If you had the pleasure of knowing her, you undoubtedly were on the receiving end of her love and generosity. As a ministry she prepared food for many in need over the many years. Betty and Fred left their mark on many and the world is a better place because of both. The family would like to thank the staff of both Heritage House (Nappanee) and more recently the staff of Elara Hospice Care for their support and compassion. A visitation will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 6:00 to 8:00 pm, Tuesday, August 2, 2022, at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, 501 North Elkhart St., Wakarusa, IN. Funeral services will be held at Bremen United Methodist Church, 302 W. Plymouth St., Bremen, IN Wednesday, August 3, 2022 at 11:00 am, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Bremen Cemetery.
