Charles A. Soens, 94, of Mishawaka, Ind., passed away on Monday, April 1, in Saint Joseph community Hospital. Charles was born on Feb. 3, 1908, in Mishawaka, to Joseph and Alida (Taghon) Soens, both of whom preceded him in death. Charles was also preceded in death by three brothers, Ernest Soens, Arthur Soens and Clarence Soens; a sister, Cecelia Soens; and by a grandson, Brian Feyos. On May 18, 1935, in the St. Bavo Catholic Church, in Mishawaka, he married Elsie T. Frayman. Charles is survived by his wife, Elsie Soens; their three daughters, Janice Bercus of Mishawaka, Carol (William) Embry of Osceola, Ind., and Patricia (Ronald) Feyos of Mishawaka. Charles is also survived by seven grandchildren, Daniel Barcus of Chicago, Ill., John Barcus of Mishawaka, Eric Embry of Osceola, Jessica (Chris) Fragile of Calif., Kelly (Daniel)Jandura of Lebanon, Tenn., Aaron Feyos of Mishawaka and Ashley (Jeffery) Zielinski of South Bend, Ind.; a great-granddaughter, Alivia Zielinski of South Bend; and by his sister, virginia (Fred) Roble of South Bend. Charles was a co-owner of Soens Electric Company, Inc., for 50 years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Bavo Catholic Church, and served for several years on the City of Mishawaka Electrical Board.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Bavo Catholic Church in Mishawaka on Thursday, April 4, at 11 a.m., with Fr. Barry England. There will be no visitation. Bubb Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements. The family requests, in Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to St. Bavo Catholic Church. South Bend Tribune 4/3/2002
