Charles "Chil" Kopsea, 79, of West 14th Street, Mishawaka passed away Saturday May 25 in St. Joseph Community, Mishawaka following a brief illness. Charles "Chil" was born on October 20, 1922 in Mishawaka as the sons of the late Charles and Anna (Gerovich) Kopsea. On July 3, 1948 in Our Lady of Hungary Catholic Church South Bend, "Chil" married Anne Ribarich who survives along with two sons, Michael (Jeanette) Kopsea of Osceola and Matthew Kopsea of Mishawaka. Four grandchildren, Charles, Richard, Amy and Anthony; three sisters, Elsie (Louis) Baldoni of Mishawaka, Magdlyn "Tags" Ball of South Bend and Margaret Gormeley of Cordova, Maryland; and several nieces and nephews. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers (Mike and John) and three sisters (Anne, Mary and Helen).Charles "Chil" was employed by St. Joseph County for 29 years in the Inheritance Tax office of the county Assessors office before retiring in 1986. He was a member of St. Bavo's Catholic Church, Mishawaka Good Fellows Club, Mishawaka Euchre Club De Amicis Club Fraternal Order of Eagles Erie 2083 and VFW Post 360 and the Mishawaka High School Alumni Club. He graduated from Mishawaka High School in 1941 and attended Indiana University in Bloomington and was a World War II Army Veteran.
Friends may call from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, May 28, in the Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka, where a wake prayer service will be held at 4 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 29, in St. Bavo's Catholic Church, Mishawaka. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. VFW Post 360 will conduct military rites. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions in Charles "Chil's" name be made to St. Bavo's Catholic Church, 511 W. 7th Street, Mishawaka.
