Obituary from p. 32 of the 5 DEC 1951 edition of the “South Bend Tribune”:

Wladyslaw (Lottie) Jurek, 422 South Brookfield Street, a retired captain in the South Bend fire department, died at 9 a.m. Tuesday at Lake Indian Point, Antioch, Ill. in the summer home of a son, L.J. Jurek, of Chicago. He was ill seven months. Born in Poland Aug. 18, 1878, he came to South Bend 70 years ago from New York. He retired in 1944 after 36 1/2 years of service with the South Bend fire department. At the time of his retirement he was captain of engine company 8, 100 South Olive street. Also surviving are his widow, Mary Anna; four daughters, Mrs. Harriet Puckrop, Mrs. Marie Janick and Mrs. Dorothy Zielinski, all of South Bend, and Mrs. Margaret Skora, of Chicago; two other sons, Julius and Chester, both of South Bend; a brother, Frank, of South Bend; 22 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Friends may call in the St. Joseph funeral home after 5 p.m. today until funeral services at 10 a.m. Friday in St. Adalbert’s Catholic church. Internment will be in St. Joseph Polish cemetery. He was a member of the St. John Evangelist group No. 65.
