MISHAWAKA - Caroline J. Runnion, 70, passed away Saturday, February 20, 2016 in her home surrounded by her family.Caroline was born April 19, 1945 in South Bend to the late Anthony and Jean (Borowski) Chiszar. Caroline was also preceded in death by a brother, James F. Chiszar. On April 18, 1970, Caroline married her loving husband of 45 years, Robert Runnion; he survives along with their children, John E. (Mary) Runnion of Omaha, NE, Mark A. (Douglas) Runnion of Mishawaka, Kathleen C. (Emilio) Canul of South Bend, Karen J. (James) Leary of Valparaiso, and Nancy J. (John) Kinner of South Bend; grandchildren, Johnny, Faith, Hope, Jacqueline, Anna, Edwardo Jr., Robert, James Jr., Jennifer, Carly and Christopher; great-grandchildren, Joshua, Lana and Daniele; sister, Nancy J. Chiszar of Mishawaka; brother, Robert A. (Deborrah) Chiszar of Mokena, IL; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. On November 14, 2014, Caroline retired after 30 years with the St. Joseph County Assessor/Auditor Office and received a Key from the County upon retirement. Caroline was a member of Polish Falcons of America Nest 200 and Nest 4, District 6 treasurer for over 25 years, and a Gold Cross Legion of Honor member. She was an avid reader, enjoyed playing games on her Kindle, going to the casinos, especially taking trips to Las Vegas, and shopping. Caroline also enjoyed cooking a big dinner for every holiday. She adored her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Most of all, Caroline loved taking a ride in the car with her husband. Visitation for Caroline is 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Tuesday, February 23, 2016 in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Rd. A Funeral Ceremony will be held at 10:00 am, Wednesday, February 24, 2016 in the funeral home with visitation 1 hour prior to the service. Burial will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice Foundation, 501 Comfort Place, Mishawaka, IN 46545.
