Jean P. Chiszar, 83, of South Phillipa Street, South Bend, Ind., died at 8:35 p.m. on Sunday, March 7, in Saint Joseph's Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Chiszar was born on Dec. 22, 1915, in South Bend, to Frank and Caroline Borowski, who preceded her in death. On July 6, 1940, in South Bend, as Jean Borowski, she married Anthony Chiszar, who preceded her in death on Dec. 25, 1968. Mrs. Chiszar was also preceded in death by two sisters, Clementine Billisitz and Alice Dabrowiak; a brother, Joseph Borowski; and by a daughter-in-law, Sally Chiszar. She was a lifelong area resident. She was employed for a total of 25 years with the South Bend Police Department, the South Bend Water Works, and the St. Joseph County Clerks Office where she retired in 1981. Mrs. Chiszar served as a precinct committeeman and worked in Democratic politics for many years. She was a self- taught seamstress since the age of 13, specializing in weddings, and she attended the Chicago Institute of Fine Arts. She is survived by two sons, James F. (Patti) Chiszar of Naperville, Ill., and Robert A. (Deborrah) Chiszar of Mokena, Ill.; two daughters, Caroline J. (Robert) Runnion and Nancy J. Chiszar, both of South Bend; a brother, Chester (Esther) Borowski of South Bend; 12 grandchildren, Teri Crouse of Indianapolis, Thomas, Robert and Kathryn Chiszar of Naperville, Ill., Michael (Christy), David and Greg Chiszar of Mokena, Ill., John (Mary) Runnion and Mark Runnion, Kathleen Canul, Karen (Jim) Leary and Nancy (John) Kinner, all of South Bend; and by 13 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Chiszar was a member of M.R. Falconettes Nest #200, the Polish Women's Alliance #305, was a member and past president of the Polish Women's Democratic Club, Polish Business Women, the Hoosier Grandmothers Club and Golden Cluster Club, both of St. Hedwig, and District #6 100 Club. Family and friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday in the St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S. Mayflower Road, where a Rosary will be said at 4 p.m. Services will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday at St. Adalbert Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Adalbert Catholic Church Building Fund, 2420 W. Huron Street, South Bend, IN 46619.
