MISHAWAKA - Patrick Frank Serge, 89, of Mishawaka, passed away in his residence during the early morning hours of Friday, May 20th, with his loving family by his side. Patrick was born in Mishawaka on July 25, 1926 to the late Frank and Mary (DeMarco) Serge. Upon graduating high school, he joined the United States Navy. He proudly served his country during WWII. Upon being honorably discharged from service he returned to the area and went to work at Studebaker Corp. Patrick went on to become a firefighter, and served 20 years on the Mishawaka Fire Department, retiring in 1979. On November 20, 1954 he married Jacqueline J. Throne at the St. Monica Catholic Church. She preceded him in death on April 1, 2008. He was a member of the VFW, the American Legion, and the DiLoreto Club of Mishawaka. His greatest enjoyment came from being in the company of his family and friends. Patrick is survived by his daughters; Marisa Chlebek of South Bend, Tina Morin of Mishawaka, Patty (Mario) Brioli of North Liberty, Diana (Willie) Laidlaw of South Bend, and Angie Eaton of Indianapolis. He was the proud grandfather of 8 and a great grandfather of 11. Patrick is also survived by his sisters; Josephine Germano of Mishawaka and Annette Kubasik of South Bend. Patrick also leaves behind his beloved pets. He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Jacqueline, a daughter, Karen Serge, and siblings, Frances, Rose and Joseph. Friends may visit with the family from 4 until 8:00 PM Sunday, May 22nd in the Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3910 N. Main St.. Friends may also visit with the family on Monday from 10:00 AM until service time at St. Monica Catholic Church, 222 W. Mishawaka Ave. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM with Msgr. Bruce Piechocki officiating. Burial is to follow at the Fairview Cemetery in Mishawaka. Memorial Contributions may be made in Patrick's name to either the Riley Children's Hospital, 30 S. Meridian St., Indianapolis, IN 46204 or to St. Jude's 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Published in South Bend Tribune on May 21, 2016
