John A. Byszewski, 81, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 2:00 AM Sunday, September 9, 2007 in Healthwin Specialized Care Facility. He was born on June 16, 1926 to the late Alex and Mary (Czarnecki) Byszewski in South Bend, IN, and was a lifelong resident. Along with his parents; two sisters, Alice Byszewski and Evelyn Anderson also preceded him in death. John was a graduate of both South Bend Catholic High School and South Bend College of Commerce. Mr. Byszewski retired in 1988 from AM General, where he worked as a Purchasing Agent from 1964 - 1988. Prior to that, he worked at Studebaker's from 1949 - 1964. He also served as a loaned executive for the United Way Campaign for five years. On October 8, 1949, he married Helen M. Kaminski at St. Hedwig Catholic Church in South Bend, IN. She survives. Along with his loving wife Helen, of 57 years; he is survived by three sons, John P. (Jenny) Byszewski of Mission Viejo, CA; Michael Byszewski of South Bend, IN; Thomas (Theresa) Byszewski of South Bend, IN; eight grandchildren, John B. (Becky) Byszewski of Irvine, CA; Brad (Elaine) Byszewski of Pasadena, CA; Ashley Byszewski of San Clemente, CA; Elysia Byszewski of South Bend, IN; Tommy, Paul, John, and Maria Byszewski, all of South Bend, IN; and three great-grandchildren, John, Jane, and Benjamin Byszewski, all of Irvine, CA. Mr. Byszewski was a member of St. John the Baptist Parish, where he belonged to the usher's club. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II. "Johnny B" as he was known to his co-workers and friends was simply one of the finest men you could have the privilege and honor of knowing. He surely personified the "human" of human being, and put the "friend" in friendship. He set a standard that many of us can only hope to live up to. He was a really great guy and will be missed by many. John was a very dedicated and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather to his family. He had a very strong conviction to his faith and lived his life accordingly.Services were entrusted to Kaniewski Funeral Home of South Bend, Indiana.
