Sadie M. Melady, 100, of New Carlisle, Indiana, passed away on Monday, Nov. 29, 2021, at Miller's Merry Manor, New Carlisle. She was born on Dec. 23, 1920, in New Carlisle to the late Orsen and Mollie (Hooton) Bunton and was a lifelong area resident. On March 9, 1941, as Sadie M. Bunton, she married Floyd "Mel" Melady, who preceded her in death on July 4, 1994. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara (Donald) Kitchen of Collbran, Colorado; her son, Robert (Diane) Melady of New Carlisle, Indiana; eight grandchildren, Donald Kieth Kitchen, Cassandra Lynn Kitchen, Nicole Lynn (Justin) Macklin, Jody Wayne (Pam) Melady, Jeffrey Robert (Lisa) Melady and Jason Michael (Megan) Melady; step-grandchildren, Kellie Ann (Mike) Vaughn and Michael Francis Duracz; 19 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren. Sadie was a lifelong member of Olive Chapel Church, New Carlisle and also a member of the Delta Theta Tau Sorority and the Eastern Star 200, New Carlisle and the Historic New Carlisle, Inc. Sadie loved to travel and make quilts, was a wonderful gardener and tended to the flowers in downtown New Carlisle and the New Carlisle Park with her cousin, Mary Alice Horvath, for many years. She was a 1939 graduate of New Carlisle High School. Sadie worked in food service for the New Prairie School Corporation for 17 years, before retiring in 1983. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. EST Friday, Dec. 3, 2021, at the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 201 S. Filbert St., New Carlisle. A funeral service will be held for Sadie at 11 a.m. EST Saturday, Dec. 4, 2021, at the Olive Chapel Church, New Carlisle, where friends may visit for one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in New Carlisle Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Olive Chapel Church, P.O. Box 158, New Carlisle, IN, 46552.
