SOUTH BEND - Evelyn J. Gerbasich, 92, passed away Saturday, September 13, 2014 in Healthwin Hospital after a brief stay. Evelyn was born October 23, 1921 in South Bend to the late Alex and Antoinette (Duszynski) Kruszewski. In Texas, Evelyn married her loving husband of 68 years, Frank Gerbasich; he preceded her in death on May 10, 2011. Evelyn is also preceded in death by her brothers and sister, Ray, Rita and Danny Kruszewski. Survivors of Evelyn include her children, Paul (Mary Eleanor) Gerbasich of Sellersburg, IN, Marc (Karen) Gerbasich of South Bend, and Amy (Rick) Bognar of South Bend; grandchildren, Mary Patt (Stewart) Spalding, Alana (Casey) Nelson, Michael (Mary) Gerbasich, Nicole (Kevin) Mentag, Grant and Kaley Bognar; 3 great-grandchildren, Lillian, Lachlynn and Layton Spalding; sisters-in-law, Mary Jane Gerbasich and Alice Kruszewski; and special friend, Sue Poyser. Evelyn was a parishioner of Holy Family Catholic Church. She had a strong devotion to The Blessed Mother, Mary. Evelyn adored her grandchildren; she loved cooking and baking special meals for them to enjoy. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 pm Wednesday, September 17, 2014 in Holy Family Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Rd. is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holy Family Catholic Church, 56405 Mayflower Rd., South Bend, Indiana 46619.
