MISHAWAKA - Raymond G. Lievens, 91, passed away on Monday, October 17, 2016, in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka. Ray was born on June 5, 1925, in Mishawaka, to Henry and Marie (Tange) Lievens. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Leonteen “Teenie” Braeckelaere. On November 25, 1948, in St. Bavo Catholic Church, Mishawaka, he married the former Yvonne Nauts. Surviving Ray are his loving wife, Yvonne; a son, Stephen (Thelma) Lievens of Indianapolis; daughters, Lynda (Bryan) Sholly of El Paso, TX, and Cynthia (Thomas) Thompson of Mesa, AZ; eight grandchildren, Zack (Amy) Lievens, Preston Lievens, Andrea (Josh) Bevil, Courtney Lamb, Whitney (Jack) Hightshoe, Erin (Chris) Severns, Jessica Thompson and Staycie Lievens; six great-grandchildren, Alexandria and Matthew Bevil, Katelyn Mairona, and Cooper Ray Lievens, Henry Lievens, Piper Severns; and a niece, Judy Richards of Columbia City, IN. Ray was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps, serving his country during WW II, where he received the WW II Victory medal, the American Campaign and the Good Conduct medal. Ray earned his Bachelor's Degree and Master's Degree from Indiana University. He was a Draftsman in Truck Engineering for Studebaker's for 18 ½ years and Miles Laboratory as a Maintenance Foreman and Technician, where he worked for 18 ½ years before retiring in 1982. He was a lifetime area resident. Ray was a member of St. Bavo Catholic Church, Mishawaka, Mishawaka Alumni and the BK Club where he had been Director under six presidents for a number of years. Ray enjoyed photography, Colts football and traveling with his wife Yvonne. They have spent many wonderful times traveling and making new memories together.
Family and friends may visit on Friday, October 21, from 3 to 8 p.m. Wake prayers will be at 4 p.m. in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 22, St. Bavo Catholic Church with Rev. Barry England officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park Mausoleum, Granger, where Military Rites will be by VFW Post 360/American Legion Post 161 burial team. Memorial contributions may be made in Ray's name to St. Bavo Catholic Church, 511 W. 7th Street, Mishawaka, IN 46544; or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital , 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
