Albert T. Van De Voorde
June 12, 1933 - Oct. 24, 2016
MISHAWAKA - Albert T. Van De Voorde, 83, passed away on Monday, October 24 at Hospice House after a two week hospital stay. Al was born in Mishawaka to Alfons and Irma (Auwenrogge) Van De Voorde. On June 6, 1953 he married the love of his life, Darlene Golubski and had 63 wonderful years together. They lost their son, Kevin to M.S. three years ago. Al was a Meat Manager at Kroger's for most of his 42 years before he retired. He had customers who loved his Crown Roasts at Christmas time. Al was a friendly man who always had a smile for his customers and workers. Al met his wife at Rose Park and they resided not far from there in a homestead where he was born, for 48 years. Al loved to fish and hunt morel mushrooms. He would go and be on Juno Lake at sun up and be back home at noon with his limits of fish. He and his wife traveled extensively and he also liked to go to Las Vegas in April. He was an Army Veteran during the Korean War years. His wife joined him when he was stationed in Fontainebleau France when they had their first child, a girl. He was honorably discharged as a Corporal after two years. Al belonged to St. Bavo Catholic Church and the United Food and Commercial Workers Union. After retirement he enjoyed Notre Dame baseball games and loved N. D. Football. Al enjoyed his polka dancing with his family and grandchildren. He had one daughter, Vickie (Charles) Burkowski of Danville, IL; three grandchildren, Chad of Danville, IL, Alison of Champaign, IL and Nathan (Jill) Burkoswki of Hoopeston, IL and two great grandchildren, Ema and Elle of Hoopeston, IL. He was preceded in death by a sister, Martha and two brothers, Maurice and Jerome. A sister, Mrs. Joan Dean of Mishawaka survives. We'd like to thank all the people who card for him at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Hospice House and a special Thank you to Viola Sims a dear friend. Cremation has taken place. Per Al's wishes, there will be no public visitation or services. Al requested that you remember him in your Faith. Hahn Funeral Home, Mishawaka has been entrusted with the final arrangements.
