SOUTH BEND - Virginia S. Tapolcai, 91, passed away December 13, 2014, in the Milton Home. Virginia was born February 26, 1923, in South Bend, to the late Felix and Mary (Zawacki) Degucz. On July 5, 1947, in South Bend, Virginia married Julius Tapolcai; he preceded her in death. Virginia is also preceded in death by her sisters, Evelyn Degucz, Patricia Degucz, and Florence Witucki; and a brother, Irvin Degucz. Survivors of Virginia include her son, Thomas (Marsha) Tapolcai of South Bend; grandchildren, Michael (Jennifer) Tapolcai of Marquette, MI, and Andrew Tapolcai of Scottsdale, AZ; great-granddaughters, Evelyn Tapolcai of Marquette, MI, and Leela Tapolcai of Marquette, MI; and a brother, Clement (Dorothy) Degucz of Granger. Virginia retired in 1991 after 50 years with AAA Credit Union (April 1, 1941, to April 1, 1991). She started working for the AAA Federal Credit Union in 1941 while a senior at Washington High School. Once she graduated she became the first full-time employee with a wide range of job responsibilities. Through the years, Virginia has worked in many areas of the Credit Union such as: teller, assistant-treasurer, treasurer-manager, bookkeeper, served on the board of directors and receptionist. Virginia has seen the credit union grow from the one-room operation known as Bendix Employees Federal Credit Union to its present $26 million asset operation. Virginia was a parishioner of St. Casimir Catholic Church, and a member of the Altar & Rosary Society, Senior Citizens Club, and the Group #129-Sacred Heart Association . She also was a member of the St. Ann's Society and the American Legion Post #357. Visitation for Virginia will be 4:00pm to 7:00pm Monday, December 22, 2014, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Rd., where a Rosary will be prayed at 5:00pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am Tuesday, December 23, 2014, in St. Casimir Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Casimir Catholic Church, 2505 Grace St., South Bend, Indiana 46619.
