MICHIGAN CITY - Joan M. Sliwa (Lekarczyk) passed away peacefully Thursday, July 12, 2018 at Meadowbrook Nursing Home. Joan was the loving mother of Julie Smith (Ed), and stepmother of Cindy Evans (Paul), Gwen Gladfelter (Mark), and Edward Sliwa Jr. (Jackie). Joan was the proud grandmother of 16 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Sliwa; son, Jeffery Ward; stepdaughter, Marianne Lyons; and son-in-law, Paul Evans. Joan was dedicated to her family and felt blessed to love her husband, Edward, and their children. As per her wishes there will not be a funeral service. In lieu of flowers or plants for the family, please make donations to the Michiana Humane Society in Michigan City, IN in her honor. Published in South Bend Tribune on July 15, 2018
