GRANGER - Phyllis B. (Bados) Szrom, 83, passed away unexpectedly on May 18, 2018 at The Waterford Assisted Living. The daughter of the late Stephen and Helen (Nowak) Bados, she was born in Hammond, IN. It was in this same town that she met her future husband, Robert “Bob” Francis Szrom; they were married on May 10, 1958; he passed away on June 29, 2014. They celebrated a wonderful 56 years together in marriage. Their marriage union was blessed with three loving children. She is survived by son, Paul R. (Susan) Szrom of Granger and their children, Andrew (Haley) Szrom of South Bend, Laura (John) Scapino of Edwardsburg, and Mikey Szrom of Indianapolis; she was predeceased by a daughter, Janet S. Auel who passed away on November 22, 2016; her husband Todd Auel survives along with their children, Stephen & Joey Auel, all of Granger. In addition to her parents and daughter, Phyllis was also preceded in death by her eldest child, Stephen J. Szrom, who passed away in 1984. She received her Associates Degree from Mundelein College, Chicago. Since 1976, Phyllis was a member of both St. Pius X Catholic Church and Knollwood Country Club. She loved all sports, especially Notre Dame sports, and enjoyed tennis and bowling. Visitation will be held on Monday, from 5-7pm, with a 5pm Catholic Vigil at McGann Hay Funerals - Cremations - Gatherings, Granger Chapel, 13260 SR 23, enter off Cherry Road. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Phyllis, presided by Msgr. Bill Schooler on Tuesday, at 10:30am, with visitation from 9:30-10:30am prior, both at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Fir & SR 23, Granger. Phyllis will be laid to rest next to her husband at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Pius X Building Fund, or Masses may be said; as well as to The Salvation Army Kroc Center of South Bend.
