OSCEOLA - Victor J. Tashijan, 76, of Osceola, passed away Wednesday, August 22, 2007, due to complications from an accident. Victor was born on April 3, 1931, in Krasnadar, Russia, to the late John and Nadia (Holotina) Tashijan. He and his family immigrated to America on July 8th, 1949. He proudly served his new country during the Korean War in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953. He was an entrepreneur when he first came back from Korea to start Vic's Auto Sales located on Mishawaka Avenue, then with his father John and family he founded and started the first Toyota dealership in northern Indiana (mid-1960s), John's Toyota, located in Mishawaka. He was a member of V.F.W. Post 360 and American Legion Post 161. Victor retired from Bayer (Miles Laboratories); he began in the drafting department and retired in 1993 as an engineering manager. He was an active member of Sts Peter and Paul Orthodox Church where as president of the congregation he helped to construct their church on Keria Trail. He married Mary Wawruszewski of Fort Wayne, Indiana, on November 30, 1957. Victor is survived by his wife, Mary; his two sons, John and Robert, their wives, Marie (Rabl) and Jennifer (Smith); his three granddaughters, Alexandra, Andriana and Annalysia; his two sisters, Tania (Basil) Zaderej and Jenia (George) Tschumakow; and many loving nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today, August 24, in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 S. Kemble Avenue, South Bend, IN, with a prayer service at 6:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Saturday, August 25th, at noon in Sts Peter and Paul Serbian Orthodox Church. Burial will follow, with military services at Fairview Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Sts. Peter & Paul Serbian Orthodox Church. Victor's love, knowledge, advice, and ice cream will be missed by all !!!
