Lilly M. Herron, 90, of Granger and formerly of Mishawaka, passed away Saturday, March 25, 2017, in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center. Lilly was born February 12, 1927 in Waterloo, Alabama, a daughter of the late J.C. and Ruth (Gross) Clardy. She graduated from Waterloo High School in 1944. Lilly married William “Bill” Herron on May 17, 1944 in Florence, Alabama. Following marriage, the couple settled in Mishawaka and Lilly has lived in Granger since 1999. Lilly was a homemaker. She was a wonderful mother to her children and enjoyed babysitting her grandchildren while their parents were working and later caring for her great-grandchildren. She attended First Landmark Missionary Baptist Church in Mishawaka. Lilly loved football and particularly Alabama football...Roll Tide! She was a good cook and enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening and quilting. She also was an avid non-fiction reader and a World War II and Holocaust buff. Lilly's surviving family includes her four daughters, Dorothy “Dot” (W.V. McCarter) Olinger, Charlotte West, Brenda (Steve) Dermody and Lisa (Doug) Estridge; 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mavis Rose and Ottie (Jim) Guthrie. Lilly was preceded in death by her husband, William “Bill” in 1983; a son, Jerry Herron in 2010; three brothers, Joe, Jim and Billy Clardy; special friend and sister-in-law, Oneida Herron; and one grandchild Services honoring the life of Lilly Herron will be held Tuesday at 1 pm in Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 W. 3rd Street, Mishawaka. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. Friends may spend time with Lilly's family Tuesday from 10 am to 1 pm in the funeral home Memorials are suggested to First Landmark Missionary Baptist Church or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital .
