Jerry W. HerronJerry W. Herron, age 62, of Mishawaka, passed away Monday September 20, 2010 at Our Lady Peace Hospital following an extended illness. Jerry was born September 17, 1948 in Savannah, Tennessee to William L. and Lilly M. (Clardy) Herron. A long time resident of the area, Jerry graduated from Mishawaka High School in 1967, where he was a champion in Pole Vaulting, and ran track. He was employed by I&M Electric for 12 years, and then by Mishawaka Utilities for 30 years as a Lineman until his retirement in February of 2010. Survivors include his mother, Lilly Herron of Granger, Indiana, his son, Shane (Brittney) Herron of Elkhart, and his daughter, Dana (Sam) Kinzeler of Paducah, Kentucky. Jerry is also survived by his longtime friend and companion, Karen Thompson of Mishawaka, and his children''s mother, Depa (Mike) Ruth of Benton, Kentucky. Surviving as well are 2 grandchildren, Cody Shemberger and Rylee Herron, and four sisters, Dorothy (Rich) Olinger of Paris, Tennessee, Charlotte West of Mishawaka, Brenda (Steve) Dermody of Mishawaka, and Lisa (Doug) Estridge of Granger. He was preceded in death by his father William, who passed away in 1983. Visitation will be held from 4-8 pm Thursday, September 23, 2010 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Osceola. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am Friday, September 24, 2010 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Osceola.
Jerry was a member of the American Legion Post #308 in Osceola, and the IBEW Local # 1392 in Mishawaka. He was fond of fishing, riding snowmobiles, and working in his garden, but most of all, he loved his dogs.
