MISHAWAKA - Sophia Sally Blume, 91, of Mishawaka, passed away Saturday afternoon, September 29, 2007, in Hospice House, South Bend. Sally was born November 1, 1915, in South Bend, a daughter of the late Michael and Veronica (Kolodziej) Lukowski. She grew up Mishawaka, and made the community her life-long home. On April 14, 1942, Sally married Howard J. Blume in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mishawaka. She was employed at Bendix Corporation before and during World War II. Sally enjoyed being a homemaker and was an excellent cook. She was an avid gardener with an amazing green thumb. Sally also liked to go mushroom hunting. She was a member of St. Monica Catholic Church and their Rosary Society. Sally attended Mass daily and did volunteer work for her church. Sally's family was the center of her life. Her surviving family includes four children, Regina Gina Blume of Mishawaka, Julia Julie Ann (Ray) Lewandowski of South Bend, Kurt (Karen) Blume of South Bend, and Chris (Debbie) Blume of Mishawaka; a brother, Stanley (Vera) Lukowski of Mishawaka; three grandchildren, James and Joseph Lewandowski, and Shelley Blume; and two great-grandchildren, Brady and Darick Blume. Sally was preceded in death by her husband, Howard; a sister, Cecilia Hatala; and two brothers, Raymond and Edward Lukowski. Friends may spend time with Sally's family Tuesday from 3 to 7 p.m. in Thallemer, Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 W. Third Street, Mishawaka, where the Rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. Visitation will also be Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. in St. Monica Catholic Church, 222 W. Mishawaka Ave., Mishawaka. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. in the church with Rev. Jeffery Largent officiating. Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. Contributions in Sally's memory may be given to the Center for Hospice & Palliative Care. Envelopes are available in the funeral home.
