Leo John Hoffner, 88, of Granger, Indiana passed away at 4:50 p.m., Wednesday, March 9, 2016 in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center. Leo was born on June 25, 1927, at home, in St. Joseph County to Thomas and Frances (Tonk) Hoffner. He was a lifelong resident. Leo retired from the Bendix Corporation. He had also been employed with Studebaker, Moellering Supply and CTS. On October 1, 1949 he married Elizabeth Green, who preceded him in death on September 3, 1997. On July 8, 2000 he married Lucille Grueger, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Linda (Roger) Michaud of Granger, Indiana and Sharon Hoffner of Elkhart, Indiana; one step-daughter, Patricia (James) Anastos of South Bend, Indiana; one step-son, Timothy (Janet) Grueger of South Bend, Indiana; two grandchildren, Karen (David) Fields and Michael (Lesley) Michaud; five step-grandchildren, Lindsey (Nate) Thielka, Ashley (Matt) Howenstein, Christina Anastos (Alex Elfar), Abbigail (Paul) Hornberger, and Michelle (Mark) Shreve; six great-grandchildren, Brooke, Lauren, Hailey, Kaylee, Zoe, and Olivia; four step great-grandchildren, Conner, Emily, Noah, and Johnny; and two brothers, Thomas Hoffner of South Bend, Indiana and Eugene Hoffner of Granger, Indiana. Leo was preceded in death by his baby boy, Gary Lynn Hoffner; and his parents Thomas and Frances Hoffner. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:00 a.m., Monday, March 14, 2016 in St. Pius X Church. Burial will follow St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, where members of the American Legion Post #284 will conduct Military Services. A visitation will take place from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. Sunday in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive and for one hour prior to the Mass on Monday in St. Pius X Church.
