Lucille Grueger-Hoffner

SOUTH BEND - Lucille P. Grueger-Hoffner, 86, passed away on Thursday, June 1, 2017 at Country Care West. Lucille was born April 12, 1931 in South Bend, to the late Stanley and Josephine (Dobrucki) Wiatrolik. On August 26, 1950 Lucille married George J. Grueger; he preceded her in death October 15, 1985. On July 8, 2000, Lucille married Leo Hoffner, who preceded her in death on March 9, 2016. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Stanley and Edward Wiatrolik; a sister, Loretta Robaska; and sister-in-law, Marge Wiatrolik. Survivors of Lucille include her children, Patricia (Jim) Anastos, and Timothy (Janet) Grueger; grandchildren, Ashely (Matt) Howenstein, Lindsey (Nate) Thielka, Christina (Alex) Elfar, Abbagail (Paul) Hornberger and Michelle (Mark) Shreve; great-grandchildren, Conner, Noah, Emily, Johnny and Lena; and stepdaughters, Linda (Roger) Michaud and Sharon Hoffner. Lucille was employed with The Associates and Robertson's department store in the china department. After Robertson's, she began working at Claeys Candy, retiring in 1996. She then went on to work part time at Hanz Ritsch at University Park Mall. Lucille enjoyed traveling, playing solitaire, working on word search books and going to the casino.The family would like to give a special thanks to Vel and Bob at Country Care West & Michelle and Caitlin from Grace Hospice for their wonderful care and support for “mom” and her family. Visitation for Lucille will be Monday, June 5, 2017 from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Rd. with a Rosary to be prayed at 4:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am, Tuesday, June 6, 2017 in St. Hedwig Catholic Church with visitation 1 hour prior to Mass at the church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grace Hospice, 5838 Brick Road #101, South Bend, IN 46628; or St. Hedwig Catholic Church, 331 S. Scott St., South Bend, Indiana 46601.
