Victor L. Gerbasich

SOUTH BEND - Victor L. Gerbasich, 89, passed away at 10:02 pm on Saturday, March 2, 2013. He was born on January 22, 1924, to Paul and Mary Gerbasich. Victor married Henrietta Machowiak on April 10, 1948, who preceded him in his passing in 2009. Victor is survived with two sons, Dale (Vickie) of Granger, Rick of Kalamazoo, MI, and a daughter, Vickie (Dave) Zakowski of South Bend. Victor also has seven grandchildren, Kristopher, Kelly, Michael, Brad, Ricki, Jennifer and Jill; and eight great-grandchildren, Kristopher Jr., Katlyn, Kendra, Kaylee, Brayden, Katie, Bryce ad Sammy; and a sister, Mary Jane Gerbasich. Victor was preceded in death not only by his parents but by two brothers, Paul Jr. and Frank, and a sister, Viola Cegielski. Victor was WW II veteran, and while still serving in the Army his 65th Signal Battalion won the Army's national service man's football championship in Hohenheim, Germany. Victor was also a member of American Legion Post #357, and was an avid euchre player. The Gerbasich family wishes to express our deepest appreciation and thanks to the Hamilton Grove East Wing staff for their love and care they provided to our father. Visitation for Victor will be held 9:00 am to 11:00 pm Wednesday, March 6, 2013, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 am Wednesday, March 6, 2013, in St. Casmir Catholic Church. Entombment will immediately follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
