William Frederick Carrico, Sr. (Fred) 85, residing in South Bend, Indiana, passed away peacefully Sunday, February 19, 2023, at his home surrounded by his loved ones. On January 24, 1938, in South Bend, he was born to John Carrico and Annette (Hayden) Carrico, who both preceded him in death as well as his stepmother, Catherine Carrico.William was honored to serve in the US Navy (1958-1960). He then worked as Head of Maintenance for Robertson’s Department Store and South Bend Housing Authority before retiring. He was a proud member of American Legion Post #303. “Fred” loved visiting his relatives in Kentucky, reminiscing about the “good old days” and sharing stories of his past with his kids and grandkids. He also enjoyed hosting pool parties, visiting “the farm”, and anything that included spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He grew up next to and loved Notre Dame, had a great sense of humor, and will be deeply missed On July 2, 1999, in South Bend, he married Mary (Benn) Carrico, who survives. In addition to his wife, William is survived by his daughter, Caryl (Dennis Miller) Swartz of Kokomo, Indiana; his sons, Donald Carrico of South Bend, Gregory Carrico and Edward Carrico, both of Bardstown, Kentucky; his stepdaughters, Marilyn (John) Lalonde of Edwardsburg, Nanette (Curtis) Smith of Niles, Michigan and Deanna Hanks of Edwardsburg, Michigan; his stepsons, Michael (Julie) Niedbalski of Bremen, Indiana and Rick (Sarah) Niedbalski of South Bend; his 19 grandchildren; his 15 great-grandchildren; his sister, Sharon Loeffler of Phoenix, Arizona; his brothers, John Carrico of Granger, Indiana and Danny (Debbie) Carrico of Osceola and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, William is preceded in death by his son, William Frederick Carrico, Jr.; his sister, Barbara Blair; and his three brothers, Kenneth, Joe, and Tommy Carrico. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 12:00 p.m., Saturday, February 25, 2023, at St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church, 2310 E Jefferson Blvd, South Bend, IN 46615 with visitation from 10:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Burial will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Right to Life, 2004 Ironwood Cir, South Bend, IN 46635, St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church, or Heart to Heart Hospice, 620 W Edison Road #122, Mishawaka, IN 46545. Palmer Funeral Homes - River Park Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements. Because of Lent, flowers are not permitted in the church.
