Charlotte Mary Stockbridge, 96 of Mishawaka, peacefully passed away on Monday, October 19, 2020 at The Sanctuary at Holy Cross in South Bend. Charlotte was born on April 20, 1924 in Mishawaka, to Felix and Celeste Varda. On June 18, 1949 she married John L. Stockbridge who preceded her in death. Together they had seven children; Janet Stockbridge of Greenfield, IN; Jean Wolf of Liberty, KY; Judy Stockbridge of Carroll, IA; John D. (Linda) Stockbridge of Fort Wayne, IN; James L. (Pam) Stockbridge of Mishawaka, IN; Joe C. (Marla) Stockbridge of Mishawaka, IN; and Joel Craig (Carol) Stockbridge of South Bend, IN. Their family grew larger adding ten grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. Charlotte grew up with ten brothers and sisters; Norma (Bob) Spychalski of Mishawaka, IN; Cathy (Tom) Foerster of Granger, IN; Lawrence (Barb) Varda of South Bend, IN; Lester (Doris) Varda of South Bend, IN; James (Shirley) Varda of Mishawaka, IN; along with Mary Weber, Roy Varda, Joe Varda, Ernie Varda and Joseph Varda who preceded her in death. She also had a host of nieces and nephews. Charlotte was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church and a member of the women’s auxiliary cooking many meals for the church; past president of Harris Township Fire Department Auxiliary; a volunteer for Busy Hands, knitting and crocheting for many years; and a former Girl Scout leader. Funeral services for Charlotte will be held Friday, October 23, 2020 at 2:00 PM at Palmer Funeral Home-Welsheimer North Chapel, 17033 Cleveland Road, South Bend, IN. Graveside services and burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in South Bend. Friends may visit with the family from 1:00-2:00 PM on Friday at the funeral home prior to the service.
