[N29777] Gaston "Frenchy" Lemieux
1929 - 2021

Mishawaka - Gaston "Frenchy" Lemieux passed away peacefully on Friday, October 1, 2021 at the age of 92 to join his beloved wife, Rolande, who proceeded him on January 30, 2021. He is survived by his six daughters, Carmen Wertheimer (Dave), Denise McDonald (Dennis), Anita Pattison (Jimmie), Linda Lemieux, Monique DeLee (Philip), Claudette Gancarz (Tom), as well as sixteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Gaston was born in Montreal, Canada in 1929 and immigrated to the U.S. in 1955 where he married his wife, Rolande. Gaston followed his love to the U.S when she came to practice anesthesia. They initially settled in Benton Harbor, MI but later became residents of St. Joseph, MI where they resided for nearly 50 years. During their marriage of 65 years, they enjoyed camping, square dancing, and raising their household of daughters. Their beautiful Victorian home on State Street became the hub for many years of family reunions and memorable occasions. Gaston was an extremely hard-working man who often managed several jobs in order to raise his children. They were long term members of St. Joseph Catholic Church and supported the Lake Michigan Catholic Schools. His generosity extended beyond his parish to include assisting at the St. John's Catholic Soup Kitchen in Benton Harbor as well as ministering to the incarcerated at the Berrien County Jail. One particular focus for Gaston's tender heart were the individuals he encountered who were enduring challenging times. He often gave uplifting support and dignity by offering employment and practical assistance. His empathetic ability to listen was appreciated by everyone. He evolved from an electrician by trade, to what he described as a "trouble shooter". His natural curiosity and great powers of observation led him to become quite philosophical. His general disposition was animated and outgoing. His generous heart gave way for his subtle and sweet humor to emerge in often playful ways. He will always be remembered as an adoring husband and caring father.A visitation hour will be held on Friday, October 8th from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at St. Pius X Church, 52553 Fir Road, Granger, IN 46530, immediately followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. The service will be live streamed at stpius.net OR facebook.com/stpiusgranger. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Reach the Forgotten Jail Ministry: 1480 Buchanan Avenue SW, Grand Rapids, MI 49507, jailministry.org, OR Benton Harbor Soup Kitchen: 233 Michigan Street Benton Harbor, MI 49022, soupk.org in Gaston Lemieux's memory.
