Gunnel Lofgren, age 91, of Mishawaka, Indiana passed away April 9, 2021 after a brief illness. Gunnel was born in Sweden on April 27, 1929. She moved to South Bend, Indiana when she was twenty-one years old and later to Mishawaka. Gunnel was a longtime member and Deacon at The First Presbyterian Church of South Bend. She especially enjoyed her many years of teaching children at their Sunday School. She was also a General Partner and Manager of Jefferson Estates and Cedar Crest for many years before retiring at eighty-eight years of age. The residents were all extended family for her and would return to visit with her long after moving out and share their life updates with her. Gunnel is survived by her three children: Gregory Lofgren, Pamela Luria (Peter), Barbara Lofgren (Ron) as well as her four grandchildren Joseph Luria, Julian Luria (Laura), Brandon Lofgren and Karin Lofgren (Cody). She is also survived by her sister, Solveig Lemnell, and brother, Raoul Hansson, in Sweden as well as her many nieces and nephews. At her request, Gunnel’s ashes will be interred at The First Presbyterian Church’s Memorial Garden. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in her honor may be made to The First Presbyterian Church of South Bend, 333 W Colfax Ave, South Bend, IN 46601.
