Helen K. Szlanfucht, 86, of Ironwood Health and Rehabilitation Center, South Bend, IN, formerly of St. Joseph Tower in South Bend, passed away Thursday, August 16, 2001, in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Szlanfucht was born on January 5, 1915, in South Bend, to the late Anthony Bargielski and Katherine Woltanski. She retired as a self employed Beautician and had previously been a hair dresser with Robertson's Department Store and various other stores in South Bend and Mishawaka. During W.W.II she was employed with the former Studebaker Corporation.

On August 18, 1934, as Helen Bargielski she married Mitchell Szlanfucht, who preceded her in death in 1982. Surviving is a son, Robert Szlanfucht of South Bend; a brother, Rev. John Bargielski of Hammond, Ind.; a niece, Barbara Szymanski of South Bend; five nephews, David Bargielski of South Bend, George Alexander of Milwaukee, Wis., Leo Krzywkowski of West Chester, Ohio, Andy Kaczmarek of Tinley Park, Ill., and Jim Kaczmarek of Fountain Valley, Calif. Sisters, Christine Alexander, Harriet Kaczmarek and brothers, Vincent, Stanley, and Joseph Bargielski all preceded her in death. Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Sunday, August 19, 2001, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN, where a Parish Rosary will be held at 7 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, August 20, 2001, at St. Hedwig Catholic Church, with burial to follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Mrs. Szlanfucht was a member of St. Hedwig Parish. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, Midwest Affiliate, Memorial & Tributes Program Dept. 77-3968, Chicago, IL 60678-3968.
