South Bend - Louis Demeter, 95, passed away Saturday, November 17, 2018 in the Sanctuary at St. Paul's. Louis was born June 4, 1923 in South Bend to the late and Stephen and Julia (Denes) Demeter. Louis was also preceded in death by two sisters, Sister M. Geraldine; and Yolanda Demeter. On February 14, 1947, in St. Adalbert's Catholic Church, Louis married his loving wife of 71 years Dorothy (Adamski) Demeter; she survives along with their children, David (Camille) Demeter of St. Louis, MO., Denis (Kate) Demeter of St. Louis, MO., Darryl (Karen) Demeter of Granger, Yolanda (Christopher) Hahn of South Bend, Donald (Kathy) Demeter of Granger, Dominic (Sue) Demeter of Granger, Cynthia Prater of DeSoto, TX., Daniel (Denise) Demeter of Indianapolis; 20 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Louis honorably served in the US Army during WWII. He was a member of the UAW, he volunteered with St. Vincent DePaul for 28 years, and was a member of the St. Adalbert's Harvest House. Louis was a parishioner of St. Stephen's Catholic Church and St. Adalbert's Catholic Church. He worked at Studebaker’s, Torrington and retired from Allied Signal Stamping. Louis enjoyed working on crossword puzzles and watching sports especially Notre Dame football. He was a devote Catholic, praying the Rosary and Chaplet of Divine Mercy together with his wife on a daily basis. Visitation for Louis will be held 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm, Friday, November 23, 2018 in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Rd. with a Rosary to be prayed at 4:30 pm. A Catholic Funeral Service will take place at 10:00am, Saturday, November 24, 2018 at St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S. Mayflower Road with visitation 1hour prior in the funeral home. A private burial will be at Highland Cemetery.
