Aug. 18, 1928 - Sept. 5, 2009
MISHAWAKA - Jennie R. Piatkowski, 81, of Mishawaka, died at 8:02 p.m. on Saturday, September 5, 2009, in Memorial Hospital, South Bend. Jennie was born August 18, 1928, in Mishawaka, to the late Felicia (Krubinski) and Walter Pawlowski. She was also preceded in death by siblings, Regina, John, Fredja and Helen (both infants) and Irene. Jennie and her husband of 60 years raised three daughters, Kathy (Ward) Underwood, Debbie (Donald) Bauters and Peggy (Gary) Foldenauer. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren, Scott (Stephanie) Underwood, Jen (Matt) Allison, Carrie and Stephen Underwood, Beth Ann (Matt) Fielder, Nick (Sujata) Bauters, Donna (Pat) Dillon, Melissa and Jared Bauters, Neil, Joey, Anna and Emily Foldenauer; and two great-grandchildren, Jacob and Lucas Underwood. Jennie attended St. Joseph Elementary School and Mishawaka High School. Upon graduation she became employed at Dodge Manufacturing Company. She also worked for Marian High School and finally retired from J&J Woodworking, a family-owned business. Jennie was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and was a previous member of the Legion of Mary and The Catholic Order of Forresters. She always began her day with daily Mass. Jennie loved to travel. She and dad vacationed from New York to Frisco and every state in between in their motor home. Disney World was the favorite destination for all 13 grandchildren. Vegas was the "grownup's" choice. An avid sports fan, Jennie loved Notre Dame, the Cubs and the Bulls. Although watching her grandchildren "play ball" brought her the most joy. Her "green thumb" was evidenced by the numerous and various plants and flowers surrounding the family home. She also enjoyed sewing and crafts, especially decorating her home at Christmas. A memorial Mass will be held Wednesday, Sept. 9th, in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mishawaka at 10:00 a.m., with the Rev. Terry Fisher officiating. Jennie's wishes were to donate her body to further medical research. Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka, is handling arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to St. Joseph Elementary School, 217 W. Third St., Mishawaka, IN 46544.
