South Bend - Raymond J. Ewald, 92, passed away on Thursday, January 17, 2019 in the Sanctuary of St. Paul’s Nursing Facility. Ray was born February 3, 1926 to the late Joseph & Anna (Prusinski) Ewald. On October 9, 1948 in St. Casimir Catholic Church Ray married Geraldine (Woltman) Ewald; she preceded him in death on March 24, 2015. Ray was also preceded in death by a grandson, Bryan Ewald; daughter-in-law, Pam Ewald; and sister, Elaine Holtsclaw. Survivors of Ray include his children, Janice (Chuck) Jones, Dale (Sarah) Ewald, Dennis Ewald; 8 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. Ray honorably served his country in the United States Navy. He retired as a custodian with the South Bend Community School Corporation. Ray was an avid Notre Dame fan. He never left the house without his ND hat. Ray loved his family dearly. He especially enjoyed watching the grandkids and helping in any way he could when needed. A Funeral Service for Ray will be held at 12:00 pm, Monday, January 21, 2019 in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME Chapel, 824 S. Mayflower Rd. with Visitation one-hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
