Fred Amon, 726 Beale St., died at 7:05 a.m. today in Memorial Hospital after a year's illness. He was born in Niles on Nov. 8, 1896, and came to South Bend in 1950 from Detroit. He was an accountant with the New York Central Railroad, retiring in 1949. Surviving are his widow, Eleanor; five daughters, Betty, Shirley, Nancy, Dorothy, all of Niles, and Margaret of Buchanan; two sons, George of Niles, and Leroy in Georgia, and three sisters, Mrs. Gertrude Weltzien of Niles, Mrs. Alice Lockey of Buchanan, and Mrs. Mildred Schenk of Detroit. Friends may call after 4 p.m. Friday in the Forest G. Hay Funeral Home and until the services there at 1:30 p.m. Saturday. Rev. J.D. Hamel, pastor of First Brethren Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery*. Mr. Amon was a member of the Pioneer Assn. and the Harmony Lodge of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen of Detroit.
