Geraldine V. Udvardy
Feb. 12, 1926 - April 27, 2015
SOUTH BEND - Geraldine "Gerry" Udvardy, 89, passed away at 11:00 am Monday, April 27, 2015, in her residence. Geraldine was born on February 12, 1926, in South Bend, to Theodore and Bernice (Janiszewski) Korpal. She retired in 1978 from Carlisle Nursing Home. Gerry was a member of Our Lady of Hungary Church and American Legion Post 50; her hobbies included cooking, dancing, listening to music and watching Notre Dame football. She was a faithful Catholic who would recite her daily morning prayers. On November 27, 1948, in South Bend, she married Alex Udvardy, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Stephen (Rita) Udvardy of North Liberty; three grandchildren, Kyle (Jill) Bach, Colette Udvardy and Connor Udvardy; six great-grandchildren, Molly, Maddux, Nicholas, Turner, Kate and Maddie; and a sister, Loretta "Lori" (Jerry) Sobczak of Noblesville, IN. Gerry was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Hannah. Gerry was truly an angel here on earth. To know her was to love her. To be loved by her was an honor. To spend time with her was a gift. Her sense of humor and fun-loving spirit gave her family and friends many hours filled with joy. She was a selfless, thoughtful, hard working woman who set a perfect example for her family. She gave tirelessly to her children and grandchildren. Having grandchildren and great-grandchildren gave her tremendous happiness. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who always had kind and positive words of encouragement for her family. Gerry enjoyed the simple things in life a comfortable home in which to live, home-cooked meals, friends and family. As an avid Notre Dame football fan, Gerry was excited about periodically attending the games and entertaining at home for bowl games. She enjoyed the Saturday night routine of visiting with relatives and occasionally going out to eat and polka dancing. What she enjoyed most of all and held of highest importance was God and her family a great reminder for all of us who tend to forget these important values when life becomes too hectic. Seeing her family content was all she ever wanted. Funeral services will be celebrated at 12:00 pm Saturday, May 2, 2015, in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 Kemble Avenue. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery. Friends may call from 10:00 am until time of services in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Center for Hospice.
