After Jackie graduated from Mishawaka High School in 1954 he took a job with one of the largest employers in Mishawaka, Ball Band, which later was renamed Uniroyal. While he worked there he went to night school to learn IBM computer programming. Once he finished his training he moved on to work in the computer department at Bendix in South Bend. Jackie loved to play polkas on his accordian. He was one of the first people to be taught by Gene Van who went on to build the Gene Van Conservatory of Music in the South Bend area. Jackie would use his spare evenings joining in "jam sessions" with other musicians at area establishments. It was on a late night drive back home from Michigan after playing his accordian at a dance that Jackie hit a patch of ice on the road. His car spun around and hit a tree on the driver's side and that ended Jackie's life.
