Mary was one of eight children born to Laszlo and Elizabeth Lampert. She married Jack Strantz in 1934 and they lived for many years on Stanley Street in Mishawaka. Jack died in 1976. Mary and Jack had four boys.

Mary was a lifelong member of St. Monica's Parish in Mishawaka. When she made her First Communion there in 1921, Jack was one of the Altar Boys who served Mass that day! Mary worked as a cook at Mishawaka High school for several years during the 1960s. Her pies and cookies, especially her peanut butter cookies, were always the talk of the school lunchtime crowd!

Besides raising and caring for her own boys, Mary always helped the needy children of her neighborhood. She often bought them gloves or wool hats or even shoes and boots in the wintertime to help keep them warm as they walked to and from school. She loved to spend a lot of time with her grandchildren, too. Today they credit so much of their success in life to her care and influence.

Mary was a special person, one who never asked for anything special, but who gave to others in so many ways. She lived all her life within a mile of where she was born and it was only on five or six occasions in her entire lifetime that she traveled more than a hundred miles from Mishawaka!

A Mass of Celebration of her life in the Lord was held at St. Monica's Church in Mishawaka on Friday, July 12. 2002. Visitation was held at Hahn Funeral Home and burial followed at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger.
