From the "History of Columbia Co-WI-1880" under the biographical sketches for the town of Randolph is found:
Phillip KUMBA, farmer, Sec 5; P.O. Salemville, Green Lake Co; born April 29, 1821, in Hesse-Darmstadt, Germany; son of Phillip KUMBA; came to America in 1842, and lived in Westchester Co, NY, till 1850. Was married in New York City, 30 Nov 1845, to Phebe BLOCHWITZ, (born 21 Nov 1826 in Bavaria) daughter of Jacob BLOCHWITZ, ..." Eight children: Magdalena, now Mrs Ferdinand HEIDT, of the town of Randolph; Catharine, now Mrs Geo SACKMAN, also of Randolph; Peter, married to Catharine BLOCHWITZ, and living on the homestead; Jacob, married Eliza SCHARF, and lives in Manchester, Green Lake Co, WI; Margaret; Phillip; John and Joseph; last four at home. Member of the Catholic church.
