Jan. 18, 1931 Aug. 19, 2005 Bernard Stanley Machowiak, 74, of 26th Street, South Bend, passed away at 5:40 AM on Friday, August 19, 2005, after a brief illness. He was born on January 18, 1931, in South Bend, to the late Stanley and Phyllis Machowiak. He is survived by a daughter, Michele Anne Machowiak of South Bend. A son, Michael, preceded him in death. On May 10, 1952, he married JoAnne Jedrzejewski in St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, New Carlisle, who survives and lives in South Bend. He lived in New Carlisle and South Bend all of his life. He is also survived by a brother, Irvin Machowiak, and a sister, Gertrude Wachowiak, both of South Bend. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and was stationed in Germany. He was employed by the Studebaker Corporation and retired from the Bendix Corporation after 30 years of employment in 1985. He was a member of St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, New Carlisle, the American Legion Post #50, and was a volunteer for the VA Hospital, transporting patients from South Bend to both Fort Wayne and Indianapolis. Visitation will be from 2 to 7 PM Monday, August 22, 2005, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend. Funeral services for Bernard will be held at 10 AM Tuesday, August 23, 2005, in the Kaniewski Funeral Chapel, with burial to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend. Memorial contributions may be made to The Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637; or to the American Red Cross, 3220 E. Jefferson St., South Bend, IN 46615.
