Mr. William J. Povlock, 84, of LaPorte, died Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2011, at Ironwood Health and Rehabilitation Center, South Bend, IN. He was born March 8, 1927, in LaPorte to Steve and Hattie (Satoski) Povlock, and lived his entire life in the LaPorte area. Mr. Povlock retired from the LaPorte Community School Corporation as a custodial foreman. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a member of Michigan City American Legion Skwiat Post 451, Michigan City Moose Lodge and St. Vincent DePaul Society of St. Joseph Church. He enjoyed dancing, played several musical instruments and enjoyed glassblowing. On July 19, 1952, in LaPorte, he married Ruth P. Wegenke, who preceded him in death on July 23, 1987. He was also preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Harriett Witek and Evelyn Rylander.
He leaves behind one son, Stephen Povlock of LaPorte; four grandchildren, Christopher, Matthew, Casey and Daniel Povlock; one great-grandson, Charles Povlock; one sister, Marilyn Edwards of Crown Point, IN; and several nieces and nephews. A private family burial will take place in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, LaPorte, on Saturday, Nov. 26, at 10 a.m. with Rev. David Kime officiating. Visitation will be at Essling Funeral Home, LaPorte, on Friday, Nov. 25, from 3 to 7 p.m. A rosary service will be held Friday at 4 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent DePaul Society of St. Joseph Church, 109 C St., LaPorte, IN 46350.
