SOUTH BEND - Albert S. Gostola, 93, of South Bend passed away on Friday, July 3rd at Southfield Village Nursing Center after an extended illness. Al was born on October 24, 1921 in South Bend to the late Joseph C. and Mary (Horvath) Gostola. On August 9, 1947, in South Bend, he married the former Marilyn J. Lies, who preceded him in death on October 27, 2012. Mr. Gostola is survived by his daughter, Sharon L. Montgomery of Elletville, IN and three sons: Michael J. (Christine) Gostola of Three Rivers, MI, Thomas J. (Sylvia) Gostola of Phoenix, AZ and Patrick J. Gostola of Red Line, PA. He is also survived by a sister, Gabriella Anderson of Fair Oaks, CA, six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Elza Fayling and Jean Woods and a brother, Carl J. Gostola. Mr. Gostola was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church, a past president of the Home Builders Association, Soil & Water Conservation Association for 28 years and CentralCareer Center. Mr. Gostola was an Army veteran, serving in World War II. Visitation for Mr. Gostola will be Wednesday, July 8th from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. at Hanley & Sons "Southwest Chapel" Funeral Home located at W. Ireland Road/ State Road 23. Funeral services will take place on Thursday, July 9th at 10:00 AM In the funeral home with Father John H. Delaney officiating. Burial will follow in Sumption Prairie Cemetery. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, all memorial contributions be made to donor's favorite charity, in Mr. Gostola's name.
