SOUTH BEND, IN - Doris June Stockton, 96, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 5:20 a.m. on Thursday, December 6, 2018 at ManorCare Health Services in Venice, FL. She was born on September 4, 1922, to the late John and Bernice (Bardsley) Kwist in South Bend, IN, and was a lifelong resident. Doris spent her winters in Florida for the past 10 years. Along with her parents, she was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Patti Stockton; and her brother, David Kwist. Doris attended Riley High School in South Bend, IN. She retired from the Bendix Corporation, where she worked as a receptionist for many years. On June 8, 1940, in South Bend, IN, as Doris June Kwist, she married Erlin J. Stockton. Erlin passed away on December 31, 1980. Doris is survived by her daughter, Judie (Charles) Meal of Brownsburg, IN; two sons, William E. “Bill” Stockton of South Bend, IN and Jerry Stockton of Punta Gorda, FL; three grandchildren, Pamela (David) Harris of LaPorte, IN, Billy (Lory) Stockton of Grand Rapids, MI, and Jerry Stockton of Columbia, SC; and two great-grandchildren, Brittany Sudlow of Chicago, IL and Todd Deutcher of LaPorte, IN. Doris enjoyed planting flowers, painting pictures, and being with her family. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home, with Pastor Roger Ash officiating. Burial will follow in New Carlisle Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Joseph County Humane Society.
